3 Ways to Stay Healthy While Traveling

In such precarious times, there have been travel restrictions due to how unsafe it can be health-wise if you are not careful. Here are some tips on how to stay healthy while still enjoying your vacation.

These tips are very simple but important, so you can worry about the most important aspect of your vacation: having fun!

Do Not Choose Aisle Seats on Planes

You have to be more selective when booking your seat on a plane. Although aisle seats make for an easier exit after landings, you are also more likely to be exposed to germs.

In 2008, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that passengers that sat in aisle seats were more likely to be exposed to an outbreak virus.

The reason is people walking up and down the aisle-coming from the bathroom-have a tendency to grab the top of the aisle seats for support, thereby spreading germs.

Get Plenty of Sleep

In 2015, a study showed how important sleep is when it comes to staying healthy, especially when crossing time zones. Your immune system can be compromised when your circadian rhythm (the body’s internal process that regulates the sleep cycle) is compromised.

A useful tip: A week before your trip, gradually change your sleeping schedules to match or at least be close to that of your intended destination. If that won’t work, eat a light meal during your flight, avoid alcohol and caffeine, and stay hydrated.

Spend some time outside when you land as sun exposure can help you adjust to a new time zone. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!

Always Carry A First-Aid Kit

It is always good to carry some first-aid supplies while traveling, especially when vacationing with kids.

Your kit should contain some aspirin and ibuprofen for pain or fever, insect repellent, antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizers, bandages, disinfectants, non-allergy antibiotic ointments, motion sickness remedy, and antidiarrheal medicine.

You should pack it in a carry-on rather than checked luggage, just in case your bags get lost in transit.
